I've been running Alltel .81 for about a week now and have not lost any messages etc the way I did with Verizon .60. Interestingly, though I started at about 16MB memory, today after several days without a reboot my File Free Memory is at 0! Everything is still running though, I think I won't reboot and see what happens.
Okay guys trying to do this .81 upgrade to my Verizon 8130 but I can't seem to get the Desktop Manager which Iam using 4.2 Service Pack 2 to prompt me to upgrade. I went in after downloading the upgrade and removed the Vendor file and ran the update setup to install the update on my computer. But when I start DM it still doesn't prompt me that there is an update available. So what am I doing wrong with this. Do I need to be using v4.3 DM to do this upgrade?
Got it to work. When I first downloaded the update from RIM I went in and deleted the vendor file but when I actually installed the software on my computer it put the vendor file back so I just deleted it again and it finally prompted me to update. Thanks for your replies.

Now that I've done the update my available memory is still hovering around 8 or 9 megs free not the 15 or 17 that some people have reported after doing the update. Any ideas why? Any way to close programs that might be running in the background and using up memory like you can with Windows Mobile devices? Though I'm sure that if I did a battery pull the available memory would go back up to say 15 or 17 megs free. But besides that the only programs that I have installed are both the email viewing programs, JiveTalk, Opera Mini, and one of the Zenergy Today theme's. Any ideas or suggestions?
I haven't gotten as high as some have reported here, but I'm above 10. The only thing I can think of is to make sure and delete (or not install) any languages not needed. I also removed the sample video (2MB). I also found a thread somewhere (sorry, don't have it handy) where I was able to remove the sample backgrounds/images (which freed up 1.5-2MB).
GPS and Alltell OS? So I have a Verizon 8130... Assuming I install this software won't this make my real internal GPS Work? Or is the way Verizon disables this is by Service books?

Won't work, it's as you guessed, in the service books.
Well, I'm sure where I did what but I am now using .81?? Which is better than .60 to be sure and I am now streaming videos from my Verizon 8130. I also somehow retained my GPS. I thought we were getting .97.
