8130 Pearl for Verizon - only 5mb free

ALCON,

I just got a BB Pearl 8130. I have nothing installed on it but Google Sync and BB Messenger yet it tells me I only have 5mb free. I heard the OS is only supposed to take up 10-15mb and its a 64mb phone so I'm unsure of what the issue is.

The only thing I can think of that is taking up that much space are my contacts... but after reading through a few forms, I'm 90% sure 500 contacts aren't going to take up 40mb(ish) of storage space.

Can someone please help?

You are correct that contacts aren't your problem. My 1041 contacts only take 319k. A big chunk of the 8130's memory is taken up by the Suretype database. There's nothing you can do about that. You can, however, clean up a lot of fluff and junk the carrier and RIM put on the phone. That will help a lot, but at the best you'll get somewhere around 20MB +/- 5MB. The best I could get on my 8130 was 27mb free before any apps were installed, and that required much stripping out of software.

I did a "wipe" on my phone and can run btwn 4-7mb free. Which is amazing since a month ago I could never get more than 3mb free and within an hour it was under 1mb. I was doing like 7 battery pulls a day, crazy.
