Wipe & Restore

Hey guys I'm a new poster here but i've been lurking for a while looking for a solution. A while ago i dropped my pearl and wound up with the white screen of death. The phone still works, will receive and make calls, but the screen is all white. Earlier today, i opened the whole thing up, made sure the screen connector ribbon was well secured, and put a little piece of electrical tape over the solder points beneath the screen (the ones above the mini-usb port), and put the whole thing back together, only to find the white screen of death staring back at me. Now i want to try wiping the OS and restoring it, using my macbook, but i have no idea how to do this. any help with this would be appreciated, or any other ideas as to how to fix the screen problem.
