Unhappy Weird malfunction, does this make any sense to you AT ALL?

My phone (BB Pearl 8100) was working fine until one day the speaker stopped working. People can't hear me when I answer the phone, and I can't hear them either. My phone won't play music anymore, BUT it will ring perfectly fine when someone calls me, which to me is ridiculous -if the speaker works when the ringtone is activated by a call, then why wouldn't it work when I want it to play music?!-
I took it to a place to get it checked, and the lady there told me the sticker on the battery was pink, meaning it was exposed to humidity/water. I don't recall the phone ever getting wet, and I think that if the phone had some hardware problems caused by water then the speakers would simply not work at all, instead of the ringtones working but not the call sound or the music. It's strange.

Any suggestions? I live in South America and this is a T-Mobile phone my sister gave me, hence, I have no warranty on it. Any suggestions? I've tried pulling the battery and rebooting it to no effect.

Sounds like the microphone and ear speaker died, leaving only the rear speaker (loudspeaker).

You can get another one on ebay for $60 US or less, and an unlock code will only be a couple dollars more.

Just know that most people don't release them from their BIS accounts, making for a hassle to use with another carrier.

The pink battery sticker doesn't mean much. It's really a bunch of red crosses over a white sticker on the bottom edge of the battery near the contacts. Mine's had the red crosses for 3 years but the phone still works fine. Just being in your pocket if you happen to sweat a little will cause it to show "moisture".
