Question Is there any way to get OS 4.6 on my 8100?

    Hi,

I've been with my BB for quite a long time now, and I'm tired of OS 4.5. I know 4.6 has the nice, sleeker design on the home page, and I was wondering if I could hack my 8100 to run 4.6.

I don't mind if it runs slower....

You can try Hybrid OS mix of your 4.5 and 4.6.1.322, 5.0.0.1051, 6.0.0.448/466, and 6.1.0.7 (Curve Sedona files)

You can find at this link BBB78 81x0 version 6.0

    Let us know, cheers

No. It's a "hybrid", a combination of different OS files to make a single working OS. They tend to work well, but I've never tried any of them.

Otherwise, there is no way to get any regular OS beyond 4.5. Period. There's just not enough memory on any 81xx series Pearl.

If you want a different look, look at getting a different theme. I had an OS 5 like Precision theme that looked great on my old 8100.

So what is the advantage to running a hybrid os?

hybrid OS's work great. had one on my old 8300. they usually add some better .cod files to the os to help improve perfomance of the standard os, but keep most of it original in order for it to work. most are packaged for a direct install to your BB. give it a shot.
