    Question Technical Question about Pearl

Hi everyone. I just want to understand my phone a little better.

I have the Blackberry Pearl through T-Mobile.

I have read all the posts and understand that you can't use Internet without a Data package.

But when you look at the guides, it says that when you turn the flashing indicator on, when it's flashing green, that means you are connected to the Internet.

I have wireless internet in my house, so I'm trying to understand if it is picking up a signal, and if not, then why is the light green? Is that actually the cell signal, not my wireless connection?

Also, if I plug my phone into my laptop, why does it not pick up the internet connection to allow for loading of programs? I know that Roxio and the downloading apps come with the phone and I have used them already to load a few ringtones from moviewavs.com.

I just don't see a point in paying for data coverage to access my own wireless connections (at home, at work, etc). My husband has a T-Mobile Dash that (supposedly) doesn't need data to access the Internet. I guess I'm not understanding the difference between our two devices when it comes to browsing.

I have T-Zones on my phone, which is basically useless to me. I will go to the website and try to find where I can set up e-mail, because that could come in handy.

I worked for AT&T back when it was Cellular One/SBC, and I have kept up with info, so I can understand a fairly complex explanation.

    Thanks for your help.

Ok. In short I think you are expecting features that your phone is not capable of or require a data plan.

I have read all the posts and understand that you can't use Internet without a Data package.
    Correct.

The Pearl does not have a wifi feature.

Also, if I plug my phone into my laptop, why does it not pick up the internet connection to allow for loading of programs? I know that Roxio and the downloading apps come with the phone and I have used them already to load a few ringtones from moviewavs.com.
There is no way to share an internet connection on your laptop with your phone. To load 3rd party applications with Desktop Manager you need to have both Desktop Manager and the same version of the OS that's on your phone installed on your computer. You will get an application loader error if you don't. If that's the case there are several threads already that have instructions to solve it.

I have T-Zones on my phone, which is basically useless to me. I will go to the website and try to find where I can set up e-mail, because that could come in handy.
Again to use email on your phone you either need an email or data and email plan. T-Zones only allows you to browse web sites that TMO approves of. Nothing more. I would recommend adding the $20 unlimited internet and email plan to your phone.

Thanks for the explanation. They really need to change their literature. One of the guides I received mention that the green light means you are connected to the Internet.
