| | T-Mobile Pearl 8100, old os 4.2.1.107, can you help me upgrade please?
Hello,
I am new to this forum, this is my first posting. I am actually new to BlackBerry, so I apologize in advance for the many stupid questions I will be asking.
I recently purchased a new t-mobile bold 9700 bold for my sister, she was previously using the pearl 8100. She really really wanted the latest BBM, and I guess her old pearl 8100 would not support BBM 5.0 because t-mobile was only releasing os 4.2.1.107. So I baught her the bold 9700, and now I have the pearl 8100 to use and learn on.
I guess it's my phone now, even though I have an Android phone, I would very much like to learn about BlackBerry, and maybe one day be a hard core BB user.
I'm sure someone has asked this already on the forum, apoligize in advance. This phone is obviously outdated. Since t-mobile will not release a new os update for the pearl 8100, can someone help me update the phone to the most recent and most safe os that will smoothly run on pearl 8100 without any hickups. Also can you please tell me of any possible problems I can run into, phone brickinging? phone freezing? slowing down? etc etc.... thank you! Also I have t-mobile, just reading around online, I heard upgrading t-mobiles versin of 8100 to a newer os can cause problems, please let me know if this is safe, and how to avoid potential hick ups... thanks again!

1.) First, make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager.
2.) Then what you need is Crackmem: http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/crac...eleased-52044/
Download and install it.
3.) Then go ahead and download the latest Pearl OS and install it: http://forums.crackberry.com/f5/newe...nguage-413149/
4.) Open Up Crackmem, and select the OS under where it says: SELECT OPERATING SYSTEM
5.) Press "Confirm Operating System Selection"
6.) Then under MODULE REMOVAL, you MUST check Remove Vendor.xml. All the rest are optional
7.) Press Execute Selections
8.) Now, click on Wipe Device, and follow the rest of the instructions

If i install AT&T on my t-mobile phone, will it say att everytime it boots? will i have freezing problems? bricking phone? any kind of problem at all, or will it run 100 percent smoothly. will I have problems with my t-mobile carrier?
thank you!

thank you! | No, if the phone is from T-Mobile, then it's T-Mo branded, and it will say T-Mobile everytime you start it up. If you got it from AT&T, then it's Big Blue branded.
It will run 100% smoothly as long as you MAKE SURE to delete the vendor.xml file! Follow all my instructions step by step!

Quick question, you said to download the latest desktop manager which is 5.0. But i was just reading another thread, way up on top, when you log into the pearl 8100 thread. It says how to upgrade your preal, and in bold letters it says absolutely do not use desktop manager 5.0

Hi Tmobilepearl8100
I had the same feeling as yours when I needed to upgrade my OS from 4.2 to 4.5 not too long ago. About the DM version, I used 4.6. In short, i just followed everything written on the instructions prepared by BigBadWulf.
Just follow the instructions and you and your lovely pearl will be all right.
Your pearl might be outdated, but it's a great device.
Enjoy it, and abuse it gently
Cheers!

Still trying to figure out how to backup pics from the internal memory (not the sd card)...onto my computers desktop.
