Saying Good-Bye To My Pearl.
I'm saying bye-bye to my Pearl and Curve. It's been a good 3+ years, but with its tiny memory allocation and inability to handle today's more processor/memory intensive apps, not to mention email attachments that are growing by the size combined with the fact that it can't run O/S 5 or 6 which includes all the newest threading, indexing, configuration and search options I think it's time I bid it adieu.
(Sidenote: Apple and Android have always been pretty good at making sure all its devices can run the latest ver. of its O/S's. I happen to be a little disappointed at RIM for not making at least a lite ver of 5.0 for Pearl and Curve users considering how wildly popular those phones were vs Storm/Bold/Tour. I feel a little let down by them in this regard.)
I'm a bit sad to see it go because at one point the Pearl really was ground breaking and represented the cutting edge in design (I still like its industrial design over Pearl 2 and Pearl 3G) and broke new ground for what a "smartphone" could be in a true pocket sized form factor.
Meanwhile the Curve was almost universally lauded as being the perfect size for a smartphone vs. the ever increasing size of the phone *** bricks we're getting today. I swear at some point if this trend continues we'll damn near be back at the size of Motorola DynaTacs.
Now I cannot say that I am overly enthused by the new Bold or Torch. I scratch my head wondering if RIM is really serious about challenging Apple & Android? A slider phone? And a vertical slider at that? Sliders were hot 4 years ago. In a world of Hummingbirds and soon to be Snap Dragons, processor speed is only half what the competition is and screen resolution that's nearly embarrassing compared today's offering of Gorrilla glass laid super AMOLED / Retina screens.
