the risks of downloading os 6 on pearl 8100 ?

i really want os 6 on my pearl but it hasnt been released yet . its only been released for pearl 3g (9100) is it going to screw up my phone to update to this ?

No, you can't install a 9100 OS on an 8100.

Because the 9100 has many hardware differences on the 8100 it cannot be done.

But if youw ant to know the risks, a bricked phone, unable to make calls, unable to receive calls, unable to scroll up or down, unable to use the media keys, unable to use the mute key, unable to use the speaker, ram, keyboard, trackball, notification light, several STD's, and death.

You will experience at least 6 of those.

But the OP said Downloading, Not installing.
So. Technically you can just won't get any of the effects I mentioned. He will however see a spike in his network usage and possibly slow down his phone more than anything in the world. (Even if it is installed to a memory card.)

Let's put it this way. The 8100 has a whopping 64 MB of ram on it. (Think about that for a minute).

That's it.

When OS 5 came out, it couldn't fit on the Pearl because it was too big. So OS 5 was never written for the 81xx series either.

OS 6 takes up over 200 MB on a typical install. Even if you "shrink" it, you're not going to be able to trim over 150 MB out of it and still have it work.

Besides that, every OS that is released is made for a specific device. One of the main parts of the OS that's tied to its device is a group of media files (some of which controls how themes work and includes the default themes, icons and wallpaper images) made for the specific screen resolution of that device. In case you haven't noticed, the screen res of the 81xx series is 240x260. The 9100 is 360x400. There are no OS 6 files written for a 240x260 screen. Much less for any 81xx phone at all.

It just ain't going to work.

Not sure how it can be made any clearer.

Umm, the OP she wants OS6 on her Pearl. You won't get a 9100 OS on the 8100.
