Unhappy Nuked 8110

Hi all ,
I have a nuked 8110. My carrier is AT&T. I tried loading 4.3 back onto the device with no luck. I am using the Crackberry 101 method. I end up with error 547 when finished.

The only thing I can think of is to try loading 4.2. The problem with this is I can't locate 4.2 anywhere. Can anybody tell me where to get 4.2?

I am open to any other ideas or suggestions as well.

Thanks,
David

Default Got no where

I tried using the dos commands to get to the Apploader. After using apploader I ended with the same results as going to it using windows.

I did notice something.

Before selecting which apps to load along with the OS there is a button "DETAILS" This button brings up a box that says 4.3 system software properties. In this box are two tabs: General and Modules under modules I find This application is composed of the following modules: There is 3 colums Module Name-Installed Version-Available Version The names are written in the same format (net_rim_bb_setupwizard) -Installed version is "not installed"- The available version is "4.3.0.93"

Here's the kicker. The very last module the name is KnJCDE Installed version is not installed - The available wersion is 0.0

Is this module causing my problems? Can I remove it somehow?

That module is for Push To Talk, and completely unnecessary to load your OS. What OS is running on your PC? Also, what Desktop Manager release are you running? These two items could be the key to your issues. Which release OS you try to install should be irrelevant. You might as well use the latest.

don't forget to remove other OS installed on your computer. Download and install a OS that is an official one. Then follow instructions on how to recover a dead blackberry.

I was using desktop manager version 4.3 & OS 4.3. OS from blackberry. I am now installing desktop software 5.0. Newest OS I can find is 4.5. This too is from blackberry.

Should SIM card be in device during installation.

The SIM card may be in the device and be fine. You shouldn't use any higher DM than 4.6 though, or you will have a hard time with it.

I am getting no where fast. I now have the latest DM and Device Software available through AT&T. I still get error 547 after trying to install the OS.
I did some more reading on Blackberry.com. They suggested contacting my carrier

I thoroughly appreciate ya'll help. Please don't give up on me yet.
Any other thoughts, ideas, or suggestions???

At what point are you getting the error, and what does apploader say at that point?

Default Error

Apploader says Your device has been updated successfully. At this point the phone goes into reboot mode for a while then the error pops up.

Sometimes I get a menu to scroll through. A few of the options are -reset-continue-VM Internal Test-VM Times- VM Stats-etc When I have the menu the screen says (Line 1)JVM Error 547- (Line 2) Flash Write Failed-(Line 3) - Scroll for available commands- (line 4) Reset .etc

If I do a battery pull here when I reconnect the battery this screen comes up right away.

I have not found this info elsewhere and wanted to state that I was able to recover from this error ON DEVICE using the scroll thru options (get your reading glasses).

Then using DM was able to pull up the latest backup and restore just the deleted DBs like address book, messages, keystores, etc. In the end result I have about 7 more MB memory than when I started. Cool deal.

I think it was all the logs I lost and chose to not restore. Might be related to heap stack size reduction (discussed below) not sure. All in all it was pretty painless compared to some of the other posts and methods I've read on this. No JL, no wipe, no reload OS, no restore 3rd party apps. You be the judge.

Orig Post:

Back again. I think it was the damn (new) CB app store that did it. It hangs on my curve. (To be fair, I have waaaay too much stuff on my phone. Could have been any number of things. I was playing with fire and found the gas this time)

Anyway, avoided wiping my phone today by a slim margin. Got this 547 error again, but this time the battery pull failed and I got this screen over and over after successive battery pulls. I don't have a PC at home so I put on my reading glasses and read the on screen instructions and you can scroll thru to many debug and fix options. I checked them all out.

One of which I found "delete persistent store" did it. Another I found was "reduce heap stack 6.5 Mb". I had nothing to loose as I was stuck on this JVM error 547 white screen so I did them both and viola got the phone back.

All my apps and themes are still there but no user data whatsoever. Address book, bookmarks, app reg info all gone. But at least I can use it today before I restore it tomorrow. Maybe this helps someone.
It's either that, or you need to remove the OS you installed on your PC, and try downloading it again. It could be the corrupt culprit. Are you running Vista on your PC by chance?

I am running XP Proffesional
When changing from one OS to another I remove OS and DM (using control panel/add remove programs), restart the computer, install DM, restart computer, then install the new OS. Is this the right way to do this.

I got the OS from BB website. I had to select my carrier them device then 4.3 or 4.5. Is this the official OS?

I amrying to use the commands on the device now. When I try to do the heap shrinkage the phone freezes. While scrolling through the command I select heap shrinkage. Then the following screen comes up:
Scroll to select Heap
Shrinkage
6.5MB
Heap Shrink

Heap shrink is a button. Once on this screen I can no longer scroll or select the button using the trackball. The device will stay on this screen indefinately untill I do a battery pull.
Thanks again for all of the help.

Default Nuked To The Max

I finally broke down and contacted AT&T. They transfered me to RIM. RIM sent me through two levels of support. In the end they advised me to make an insurance claim with AT&T. The fellow I spoke with said that I must have a shorted circuit somewhere. It looks like I'll be upgrading to either the Curve 8320 or Curve 8900

Thank You all once again
