If these are service books pushed by your carrier, then there's nothing you can do about it. Upon rebooting, as soon as your phone connects to your carrier's network, those service books gets pushed to you again every time, if they are not already there.
Best thing to do is simply hide the icons only - since they are usually just browser links anyway, they take up very little memory. That way, the service books are there and won't get reloaded, and your hidden icons stay hidden.
That's what I do with all the "Media Mall" related crap and browser links that AT&T started dumping on my phone several years ago. All the extra icons are hidden and they stay that way even after a battery pull.
