Question How Do I Make My Blackberry More Faster

Depending on what I'm doing, whenever I go to most places in my blackberry it takes forever to load, such as pics, themes etc...

Are you almost out of memory (options / status)?

Also, uninstall languages and programs / themes that you don't ever use.

Follow the instructions in the link in my sig for Optimizing your BB's Memory. That won't speed up the time it takes for downloading over the network, though.

Those directions sound complicating though is there an easier way or site.

Here's my "kinda on topic" question. About the themes...I've long ago done the whole unlocking of all the vendors. However, for Sprint, Telefonica, Verizon, & Bell Mobility, there are no file sets, it just goes straight to the next vendor. Where could I find the info that belongs with each of the above vendors so I can then make the appropriate edits for T-Mob?

Default Open processes are the devil

I like to keep the application switcher on one of the convenience keys so I can quickly and consistently monitor ,and potentially close down, whatever open processes I deem not necessary. It helps reduce processor clutter as well.

    Question

I checked this out on my 8100 and only 1/3-1/2 of my file space is free. I'm not sure what is taking up so much space. all my pics,m4a//mp3,mp4, etc. are all saved to my micro. I hit menu & opened up the Database Sizes, most are using miscule amt's of space. But, the Browser Data Cache is 673k and Content store is 547k. I then went into my browser, cleared out the memory (wasn't much), went into OperaMini, cleared pg. history.....doing those 2 things lowered the Brwsr Data Cashe from 673 to 647. Wooo Hooo !?!?!?! The only other thing i can thing of would be my bookmarks in the browser. Would they take up all that space? And I have no clue what "Content Store" even related to. Any help on what's making thise databases so big and how to clear them?

    Thanx!!

I've noticed the same problem on my 8100 and I have over 50mb of free space. Any time you go to look at a photo or a theme on the pearl it takes forever to load.

Anyone have a good link for the optimization thread John Clark talked about?

    In the article I read:
" We can also remove the PTT .cod files to remove PTT from the AT&T devices. To remove PTT from AT&T devices remove the following .cod's:

    net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app.cod
    KnJCDE.cod

What is PTT? If this PTT thing isn't something I need/want, I'm assuming I can still remove it w/out causing any problems even tho my 8100 is a T-Mob device, not AT&T, rite?

One more question. These are the 4 largest files in my Java folder:

    net_rim_bb_media_240x260_b.cod 3595kb
    net_rim_bb_medialoader_video.cod 2340kb
    net_rim_cldc.cod 1155kb
    net_rim_mds_runtime_lib.cod 735kb

The article referred to a couple files similar to these that could be removed that I didn't find in my Java folder. Maybe cuz my OS version is a different release or I have a different carrier ?!?
But, since these are taking up the most space can someone tell me exactly what each of these 4 are, can I safely remove them, and what will be effected or changed if I can/do remove them?

    Thanx!!

    Do Not Delete cldc!
You do not need to delete the .video.cod either. That is the setup for the sample video which you can delete through the app loader.
The media.cod you can delete but you may lose some options that you might want.
It's best to always do a backup before you change anything.

To your earlier post, the ptt is a nextel like feature that is useless. Get rid of it unless you want to pay $10 and only walkie-talkie other people in your network.

A couple of big hogs of memory are voice activated dialing. If you don't use it, get rid of it.

The att theme, sorry I dont' recall what carrier you are on, is worthless as well and takes up about 1.5mb of memory.

I have followed John's adive and unlocked all vendor themes, kept the two I liked, deleted the rest, deleted the ptt feature, deleled the voice activated dialing feature, added bbmaps, and did a few other mods. I now have about 30mb free space.

Thanx lush!! Removing the AT&T theme is what got me started wanting to remove other stuff that I have no use for. So, now I'll go delete the PTT thing, won't need it either.

    Thanx again for the help!!

Followed the instructions on my Pearl and it seems to be moving much faster now. Got more than 60% free file space.

    Thanks!

John Clark, do you realize putting another carriers software on your device voids warranty?
