so i just downloaded this application, opera mini, and i'm on a solo mobile plan. everything that i've read so far has said that it's free to use, and i called a representative who said that the internet connection is free as well. i apparently don't need a data plan, and as long as i don't download anything she said i should be fine....

is this a scam and am i really going to have to pay, or is this actually a dream come true?

IDK what carrier you're on, but generally data is data, no matter what app you use it with. Most like paid for using their network to transmit and receive it, and if they don't catch you right away, that doesn't mean they won't eventually. US carriers have moved to requiring a BlackBerry data plan, whether you want it or not.
