Do I have a nuked 8100?

I'm trying to get a friend's 8100 up and running but I'm not sure if it is truly nuked. When put in the battery I don't get the white screen with an error code. What I do get is a battery with the Red line thought it. I can't get a PIN when I use DM. but my computer did recognize it as a RIM device. Any suggestions or direction on finding a post that might help me. I couldn't find a post with the same problem.

The battery with a red line through it means the battery is so depleted that the phone is not detecting it. Plug it in to a wall charger and make sure the phone is turned off. Leave it on the wall charger for at least an hour before you turn it back on. By then it should have enough charge to be recognized.

I don't think the BB needs power to be PIN detected on a PC.....in fact i know it doesn't so i'm thinking another issue maybe. Try what Jeff said then post back results though.
