Your best bet is a cellular repair shop. Those are small solder spots, and should be done right.

Just Power Cycle the battery, waiting until the red light comes off and you see the white screen. e.g. you take out the battery, put it back in, wait for the red light to come off and you see the white screen, then take out the battery again. Keep repeating until you see the hourglass. Make sure you wait a few seconds on the white screen though because when you see the hourglass come on, it should work.

Strangely enough, just last night my phone fell to the floor and everything fell out - the back, the battery and the SIM card. I put it back together, turned it on, and got the solid white screen... and it stayed that way. I thought, great, I killed my phone. But I remembered seeing this thread title and figured I'd check this out.
The fact that BlingBall still activated the color LEDs under the trackball after a few minutes of booting up, and I still got calls and audible notifications (and the notification LED still flashed), gave me hope.
I read Philips post and tore into the thing today during lunch. I also got the chance to clean 3 years worth of finger and ear crud out of the inside edges. Put a piece of electrical tape between the screen back and the USB solder points. Put it back together, and plugged the battery back in (but not the screws just yet).
It worked.
The old 8100 continues to live.
And, maybe its just me, but the thing seems more solid and less "creaky" than before after the screws went back in.
This forum comes through again.

white screen
I had the same prob tonight. all of a sudden the colors on my screen changed and faded then everything was a mirror image. then the white screen
I tried battery pull and then eventually after a few tries of that no more color at all. Just white.
I was reading all the comments here and thought about taking my phone apart (since sprint takes weeks to replace your phone) but dont have the tools
What I ended up doing was squeezing the $%^& out of my phone
I thought if there were a bad connect it might help
so i put my thumbs on either side of the screen and used all my other fingers to push the back inward
I could see streaks from the lcd or whatever in the screen
I pushed the "back" button and there was a distorted screen
I kept squeezing and manipulating the phone until the screen was completely back
this worked for me but I'll be at sprint tomorrow lol wanting a replacement... I'm sure this was no REAL fix - 06-08-2010, 12:12 PM #38

tape worked on white screen issue
On my 8100 pearl, I just got the absolute 'white screen' issue and repeated battery pulls didn't help over three days of attempted fixes. I finally took it apart down to the circuit board and cleaned the accumulated fuzz junk out while it was open. I put a small plastic tape between the 4 solder joints and the screen as recommended. I put it back together and it worked instantly. awesome, thanks.

this is my second fix (also replace trackball) I've used here and both were great. - 08-22-2010, 08:24 AM #42

Bold 9000 doomed? :(
Hey, I did the electric tape over the 4 Solder points on my BB Bold 9000 but I'm still getting the white screen. Can someone go over exactly step by step where the solder points are located so I know I'm doing this correctly? I also dropped mine in water and this could be why everyone else's is working and it's not working for me. I did do the take out the battery and wipe it off and put the phone and battery in rice for a few days. Now I'm just getting a complete white screen, it responds by me pushing buttons, the "say a command" button works on the side, and the camera is working.. When I connect it into my computer it does recognize it though, and I have tried wiping it clean and reloading the OS on it. It seemed to respond to the computer (shutting off and on) when it went through this process. Any hope for this phone? Or am I definitely looking at having to buy a new one?

Thanks!Last edited by kailad123; 11-21-2010 at 06:16 PM.

Another White Screen Fixed
Just wanted to put in another thanks for the suggestions in this thread. I went to try the screen contacts trick when I found that the motherboard connector was loose. Clicked it into place and all was fine. Wouldn't have even checked that if I wasn't reading this.

hey guys...
I am new in this site, i have an 9700 Bold and this morning, I found my screen white. Nothing happen till than, sometimes losing my screen while calling, but always going to be ok when pulling out the battery. Now my screen is a blank white screen. My handheld is in warranty, so I am afraid to disassemble it.
I was trying a few tricks people here were saying and nothing changed, after all my laptop found that the SD card has a problem and recommended me to reformat my SD Card, I was trying to repair it instead even I had a backup on the computer, but nothing happen. The cellphone works properly, I can receive calls, I hear getting messages, the led works properly, and even gives me the sound of being rebooted. Do you think that my operator will change my Cellphone? would be the prices of repairing big? My cellphone has some scratches only from my pocket, cause I've lost my leather etui, and I've dropped it twice in 1 year. Anyway do you guys can you recommend me something for this problem?
Txs...
P.S. please forgive my bad english...Last edited by Antonug; 01-02-2011 at 10:40 PM.
