Default BB Pearl 8100 Won't Connect to PC

My BB works fine as a phone however I need to connect it to my PC to upgrade/sync my calendar etc.

When I plug in my USB connector the phone shows an error message saying that the USB port I'm using isn't a powered USB port, and charging will be unavailable. The PC and the DM both fail to recognize that the phone is connected to the computer at all, even though after I connect the phone Windows installs a new driver succesfully.

- The USB port I'm trying to use is a powered port because I have other devices I DO charge using it.
- This happens regardless of which USB port on my PC I use.
- It happens on several different machines
- It happens using XP SP2, Vista, & Windows 7
- The previous owner (a friend) had no issues connecting to any computer using XP or Vista, and there have been no significant changes between him using it and me.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

OS version: 4.2.1.109 which I can't upgrade until I get the phone to talk to the computer.

Cheers

Time to do the first thing.... Check if one of the little bips are missing in your USB cable and your BlackBerry's bips as well.

Make sure Mass Storage Mode is enabled on your phone and that Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected is set to Yes or prompt. I can't remember exactly how to get to these settings on the Pearl, but it should be go to Options>Memory>Enable Mass Storage Mode. Hope this helps

That is only to give direct access to the MicroSD media card as a removable drive attached to the computer, and the OP never said if one was even installed on the phone.

It doesn't mean that one isn't in the phone, but the 8100s don't come with them normally.
