I've been trying to put sound effects on my bb by emailing a sound clip to myself and downloading the attachment but everytime I do it says 'sorry, we can't show a preview for this attachment type' and in the menu it won't let me retrieve it. what can I do?

Try connecting your BB to your pc and enable mass storage mode. Then you can see the device memory in "my computer" as if it were another drive on the pc.
Then just drag the file from your pc into the ringtones section of your media card or device memory, whichever you want to store it in.
