Default Any new OS for 8100 Pearls?

Is there going to be more OS for 8100 or that latest one in March of this year is it?

Somehow I doubt we will see many more updates. Maybe a few minor ones might still pop up. But with all the new devices out and coming up, including the new Pearl, and developement of OS 6 and the next OS, RIM may not feel the need to develop OS 4.5 much further. After all, the 81xx series is done for and will never get anything beyond 4.5 because of its memory limitation.

No, it's over for that line. The 8100 series was EOL'd how long ago?

I just downloaded 4.5.0.306 from blackberry.com here:

Code:
blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do
Seems to be the latest I've seen, but then again that newbie title up there is quite accurate...

That ".306" is the "Package Version". Within that is application version 4.5.0.182 (which is the number everyone goes by for OS version), and software platform 2.7.0.106. That's the same still current AT&T package that first came out in January of this year.

^^ Good to know. So is this the latest, or is it just the latest that BB.com is providing? I have a pearl with a toasted battery and will be playing around with it once the new batt shows up (any day now). I'll need to clear off an old BES IT policy (I have the instructions for this and already was successful on a 7100g), then want to upgrade to the latest (stable) OS to learn how to use BBOS. Thanks.

Just read above that the other guy had .188 but if the .182 is current for AT&T I think its good enough for my needs at the moment. Thanks again.

I'm quite happy with .182. Been using it since it came out. I figure it should hold me until I can get the 9100 within the next month or so.

In loading the OS, I only did some minor slimming down. I did not load BB maps (AT&T disables it to suggest TeleNav by loading a browser link to download it - don't bother, it's slow as can be), I use Google Maps instead; no MDS (it's a BES thing anyway); no extra languages; no Brick Breaker; no DOD certificates (don't work for the Department of Defense); and BB Messenger (don't use it).

That left me with enough room to put Google Maps, ebay App, Amazon App, ScoreMobile, BB App World, Facebook for BB, Opera Mini 4, BeWeather Free, Poynt, and a few extra things like a variant of an OS 5-like Precision Theme.

This does have a different background from the one that comes with the PXzero theme shown above that I got in the 8100 themes section of this forum

I can't stand the default OS 4.5 BB and AT&T cartoonish looking themes.

That looks great. I'd like to do something similar. Hopefully the battery I ordered on ebay will show up soon so I can get started.
