Default is it worth to buy or any new version coming ?

Hi,

I want to replace my nokia to this Pearl. I don't need heavy feature, just need a rough and tough phone for heavy usage.

(I have Bold 9900 for my other usage).

any chance that new version/model will come soon ? or Pearl 3G is latest one only ?

Please share your feedback with Pearl 3G also.

I don't think a new version will be coming out. I am very happy with this phone. Had it for a year, no problems!

I think that there is no need for pearl device...

Now you have the torch slider device which gives you a keyboard and a thin designed Blackberry and you have the Bold device such 9900 and 9790 as the classic blackberry style phones.. and for those who like the landscape phones you can get a torch 9860 Blackberry.

i think pearl needs to be re-introduced, i am very much happy with it. those who like T9 they can easily upgrade themselves to suretype Pearl. i can type a msg without seeing the keypad or partly in a conversation on T9 phones. I had two choices 9100 or 9105 which has a T9 and i didn't make my decision wrong with 9100.

only thing is that RIM needs to reduce the cost as a entry level BB with pearl to penetrate the T9 sector.

I didn't know whether or not there's a need for the Pearl series. I'm not aware of the sales figures, or lack thereof.

But I do know that your reasoning doesn't exactly hold water. Torch sliders (9800, 9810) aren't all that thin and are the heaviest BB's in quite some time. I'm a big fan of Torch sliders and enjoyed my 9800 for year I had it, but a comparison between these 2 form factors is not a good one.

Also Torch 9860 is portrait-oriented by default (as are Torch sliders), not landscape as you commented. The Bold & Curve series are landscape-oriented.
Of course you can flip a Torch the other way for landscape use, but I don't think that was your point.

Of the models you mentioned, the brand-new Bold 9790 is closest to 9100 physically (similar size & weight, candy bar form with a hardware keyboard).

Why not save your money and just use your 9900? If you damage it, you can buy a new one for a bit more than the Pearl would cost, but maybe you won't need to replace it and then you save on getting a 2nd BB.
Just invest in a decent case for the 9900 (I like the oem BB soft shell) and maybe an extended warranty if that gives you peace of mind.

Anyway... I'm a fan of the 9100 even though it seems to get little respect. It's a little powerhouse with a terrific screen resolution for its size.

If you're dead set on a 2nd BB, you should also check out the new Curve 9360. It's the most solidly-built Curve ever, but yet the thinnest too. It has the same 480x360 screen res as the Bold 9700/80, an 800MHz processor that runs OS7, and an improved keyboard.
