Now you have the torch slider device which gives you a keyboard and a thin designed Blackberry and you have the Bold device such 9900 and 9790 as the classic blackberry style phones.. and for those who like the landscape phones you can get a torch 9860 Blackberry. | I didn't know whether or not there's a need for the Pearl series. I'm not aware of the sales figures, or lack thereof.
But I do know that your reasoning doesn't exactly hold water. Torch sliders (9800, 9810) aren't all that thin and are the heaviest BB's in quite some time. I'm a big fan of Torch sliders and enjoyed my 9800 for year I had it, but a comparison between these 2 form factors is not a good one.
Also Torch 9860 is portrait-oriented by default (as are Torch sliders), not landscape as you commented. The Bold & Curve series are landscape-oriented.
Of course you can flip a Torch the other way for landscape use, but I don't think that was your point.
Of the models you mentioned, the brand-new Bold 9790 is closest to 9100 physically (similar size & weight, candy bar form with a hardware keyboard).
