Totally Lost on Entering My Contacts

I have tried everything that I have read about entering contact via the desktop application. I dont have Outlook, I am trying to use an Excel spread sheet. I have tried everything I can think of, followed all of the directions I have found and not a bit of luck.

Can any one help me, please?

If you have a sample excel sheet I could see, just to see how you have it set up I would greatly appreciate it. Thought exporting my contacts I have in my phone to an excel sheet would show me the lay out, but after it did it.....I couldnt open the excel spreadsheet.

If you have a Gmail acct and you install Google Sync on your BlackBerry, you can upload your contacts to gMail, with an excel spreadsheet.

Then second step is an over the air transfer to your BB using Google Sync.
