top media buttons not working

My top media buttons have stopped working. Most noticeably the mute button, as this is used to unlock the phone. Is there any alternative method of unlocking the screen

Worked out a fix to my unlock problem. I have set the phone to autolock, and assigned a password to unlock. Therefore I no longer need the mute button on the media keys to unlock the phone. Media buttons still dont work, but I dont use the phone for music so theres no problem
