Default Pearl 9100: OS 5 or OS 6?

Just got my unlocked 9100, the stock OS is a bit dated(5.0.0.604). So, should I update to the latest OS 5 or upgrade to OS 6?

My concern with 6 is memory, would I have enough left to install a few apps(mainly document reading and editing) or no?

Also, stability wise, which would be better?

Keeping in mind I'll be traveling a lot(changing SIM and providers as I go) and OS maintenance isn't something I'll be in a position to do, at least for the next year.

I think OS6 is pretty stable but it has some bugs. For casual users isn't a big deal, but if you're a heavy user maybe isn't a good idea.

With OS6 you will get enough memory to intall many apps. Also, if you shrink the OS, you will get around 100mb. Think if the advantages of OS6 are good enough to sacrifice some stability, otherwise, I'd stick with OS5.

Since stability is of the utmost importance for me, I'll stick to 5.

Thanks for the reply.

I put 6 on then went back to 5. 6 sucked for me. Very sluggish and several apps that didn't run. Very few themes too. Only thing I miss about 6 was tabbed web browser.

Sounds like a very bad memory leak...

Default How do I go back to OS5?

I stupidly went onto OS6 and its a very poor copy of Nokia.
Give me the no nonsense BB menus instead of the stupid icons OS6 tries to copy. They are so small that they can't be understood.
Could someone tell me where to get OS5 and how to install it?
Cheers!

I have changed my tune. OS 6.0.0.481 is better than OS5 for me. I was OS5, went to leaked OS6, had horrible experience and went back to OS5, now back to OS6, and like it a lot. Battery life is better (than OS5); tabbed browsing is nice; device is snappier; and Playbook bridge works.

Installed .534 & it seems very stable and responsive.
I think OS6 is already where it needs to be in order to be used as the default OS for the Pearl 3G (just my opinion, don't shoot me)

is the os 6 small memory wise on devices with just 256mb of ram versus the fones that have 512?

After upgrade to 6.0, and install some apps abt 15MB. I still have 70MB free space so I dont think it's the big deal

I completely agree. .534 is great. The browser on OS 6 is reason enough to upgrade. Everything else is freshened up a bit, and very responsive. I installed the standard setup without extraordinary measures to cut out bloat (no "compression" or whatever people call it); I've got about 10MB of apps installed (as many as I want right now), and have 60MB free. I love it!
