Default os 6 Wifi

Hi guys,I have a doubt (first time blackberry user (pearl 9105), although I did search before writing here):
I have os 6.0.0.570 and when I turn off data plan (simple data plan,no BIS or BES),I can't load websites neither in opera, nor default browser.Google maps won't work too,and gmail app doesn't too.
With data plan it works.Do OS6 switch to Wifi when it is turned on (And connected to a network) or do I have some "problem"?
My friend with a pearl 9100 with os5 say he can use this applications with wifi only.
Thanks

Everything I need works with my cheap data plan, so why pay the double for something I don't need?
I'd just like to know an answer for this..If I don't come to some kind of conclusion guess I'll just downgrade to os5

well try os5, and if it works, keep it.
if not, get BIS.

a lot of members here will tell you the same thing, get BIS or dont ask.

guess you are not understanding what I want to know...
I know that with OS5 you have the option to "manually select" if you want to use data plan (either if it is normal,BIS/BES,whatever) and Wifi.
In OS6 you don't have that option, does that mean that when both are available the OS will autoswitch or what?

This has nothing to do with BIS..if I had BIS I would have the same doubt for sure...
Think,if I had BIS,the same thing would happen and if the OS don't autoswitch to wifi when available, what would be the point of having wifi?

WiFi gives you the ability to access your included data services in areas where you might not be able to receive a carrier signal. Wifi is not included on the device to provide you access to data that isn't included in your data services from your phone service carrier.

And how the management of that done?everytime that I am connected to a wifi network (with data enbaled too) it will use wifi?or just when I have no network reception (2g or 3g)?
thanks

edit: guess I found my answer here:
Os 6 wifi

And did this simple test:
wifi+2g data - open a heavy page
2g data - open the same heavy page

wifi+2g is very fast opening the page,so it is using wifi..
Thanks
