new pearl 3g keypad lights work when they want

hi all i got a new pearl 3g and i tried both latest os 882, and 972 and the key pad lights just come on and off when they fell like it, no idea why if i put key lock on then take it off they come then if i do it again nothing happens when i do a reboot they come any ideas cheers
