Here's my short-version OS install guide if anyone needs a refresher...

ELITE1's Quick OS6 UPGRADE GUIDE

(Optional) Uninstall any previous OS from your PC.
Download OS to PC. Use Internet Explorer to do so, not Firefox or Chrome. (For leaked versions, the browser is irrelevant though.)
*If 100% certain you've previously used FF or Chrome on same PC to DL an OS successfully, feel free to use FF or Chrome again.
Following successful DL, run OS file to install OS on PC.
On BB, go to BBM Options, scroll down to Backup section. Ensure Remote Backup is enabled AND also conduct a Local Backup to media card.
Go through any 3rd party apps that have option to save settings to media card, and conduct Backup to media card from menu within each of these apps. (Examples: all Bellshare apps such as BerryBuzz & BerryWeather; QuickLaunch; Shao's apps such as Wallpaper Changer & SixTools; Show Me The Images; etc).
Connect BB to PC. Open DM and backup device. Close DM.
(Optional) Use desktop program like BBSAK or BBMCP to backup 3rd party apps.
On PC, navigate to
•64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader and delete file therein called Vendor.
•32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader and delete file therein called Vendor.
(Optional/Recommended) Run BB Boss v2.2 or Shrink-A-OS/BBH+ Tool.
In same AppLoader file where you deleted Vendor, double-click on Loader to initiate OS upgrade. Follow onscreen instructions.
After OS install is complete, perform several physical battery pulls over first 1-2 days for OS to "settle in." Perform first batt pull very soon after OS is installed.

PS I've posted this before in other threads, but there always seems to be some people that appreciate a step-by-step each time.

another vendor.xls file exists in 32 bit systems, which will not allow you to update your BB via apploader.

you have to delete both.

by the way, does anyone has installed this version. i will have a try today evening.

previous version i.e. 668 was pretty good but as days in progress, starts having some problem. battery life is pathetic specially with 3G, hourglass is become kinda annoying, sometimes whole phone freezes like ****.

shall update you on new version by COB..

It's not only 32-bit systems, it can be 64-bit systems too, but located here:

C:\Users\[INSERT USER NAME HERE]\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML

I've personally never had to find & delete it. No idea why.
I just looked and much to my surprise there's even a Vendor file there now!

I'm not sure if BB Boss removes both Vendor files (if applicable), but I do know that BBHTool does.

Anyway, thanks for the reminder. I've been meaning to add that to my guide for quite a while and keep forgetting.

welcome mate...

yesterday i have installed .706 and till now its going good. need to pull out the battery for 2 times because some freezing prob. i am not sure about the reason. battery is better than .668, charged yest'day night and now @ 27%.

regarding freezing prob, i am not able to find out the real culprit. it freezes when BB sync symbol is not blinking, sometimes during BBM (after installing 6.1). again i think this not a real pain that battery is not getting charged when temp reaches to 40C.

Hey!
I have a 9100 with OS 6.0.0.600 platform 6.6.0.223
Tried updating, uninstalled the previous OS from my PC installed the new one, deleted Vendor.xml and run apploader, but it won't show the option to update my BB, it only shows some options to modify the already installed apps on my phone. What am I doing wrong???

So I finally made it!!!!! (there was another vendor.xml file hiding)

but now I have two problems, BBM won't let me send photos, in the preview window I can't reach the send button.

And in the facebook app the scrolling is all wrecked, it won't follow the selection.

Is somebody aware of this problems?

Hi I found the same problem with the last few releases of the OS

I uninstalled FB and then went to the BB webbrowsers FB and installed the mobile from there.

Its been working a treat ever since
