Default About 9100 without data plan

Hi everyone
Im new to BB platform because im iphone user.
However, my contract with ATT soon will end and i want to try BB for my next phone.

I have a question that is there possible for me to use a BB 9100 without ATT data plan?
And how i can do that?
Any problems could happen? (I heard that it would limit the function but what function?)

Thank in advance
Harry

AT&T will automatically add a data plan when you activate a BlackBerry on their network.

Nope. It's a requirement.

How about if it's a prepaid number?

On a prepaid plan, it's not a requirement.

Are you going to change from a (postpaid) contract account to prepaid account?

Oh yeah, actually i would stick with a contract phone along with its full package, but my brother wants to use prepaid service to get rid of the data plan service because he doesnt want to stick with Att.
So basically, he can use a BB9100 without data plan with a prepaid number right?

Thank you for your reply.

Wow, that's convoluted.

It would have been helpful to indicate at the beginning that you weren't talking about your contract line but rather a completely different line on prepaid.

A device on a prepaid (GoPhone) account is not required to have a data plan.

Understand that NO data services (email, browser, Facebook, Twitter, MMS) will be available on the device. The device will be able to be used for phone calls and SMS.

I just picked this up last week on Virgin prepaid (Canada). I get that I don't have a data plan, but I was hoping I could still setup email, facebook, etc to use on wifi. Unfortunately haven't been able to work that out yet. I can access my gmail through the web browser, but it would be awesome if I could get it integrated more. All that seems to work well on wifi is twitter.

Still love the phone otherwise. Though the battery isn't lasting as long as I was expecting.
