I believe everything but the Z3 is being built by BlackBerry.

Most Prototyps are build in waterloo they still have a assembly line in Town, Gonna say The Classic could be build by Foxconn since it's a cheaper model..... so Made in Canada is a good thing for the next big Phone.

Even if it's made by BlackBerry, it's not necessary being manufactured in Canada.

Hmm... I wonder if the Verizon model will also be made in Canada/Mexico,.. since it is also a smaller batch (and the VZW Z10 was made in Canada instead of Mexico at that time).

That is not correct and BlackBerry themselves never claimed this would happen. More like the Z3 was a test case to see whether this kind of business arrangement could work (and we still don't know for sure that it does--we've seen no sales numbers on the Z3 yet).

If it does work, we've been told that low-price, high volume devices will be "outsourced" to Foxconn, with higher-margin items remaining in-house.

If I had to guess I would think Fox is manufacturing all BlackBerry phones. It would only make sense so that they save money on production, inventory, etc.

When the Passport images first leaked, it was widely speculated that it was a "physical keyboard test device" for Foxconn, which seemed to make sense since it has the same sharp/straight edge construction as the Z3.

However that was a long time ago, and those blurry leaked images of a funny-looking device turned out to be a real "flagship" device.

The only thing confirmed is that the Z3 is definitely being produced by Foxconn. Mr. Chen said the high end phones will not be. It's an easy guess with the Passport and Classic. Passport no, Classic yes. Until the Z20 is officially announced, it's a bit harder to guess if Foxconn will produce it?

I seriously doubt that - the cost wouldn't justify that. Not to mention the is zero benefit for them to do that.

There's apparently two versions that will be available. One built in Mexico and one built by Foxconn. Not confirming that, just saying that's the word on the street, yo! lol.

    The original plan:

Low-end, high volume phones = Foxconn
High margin, high end phones = Blackberry

"Despite what he views as the success of the Z3’s development, Mr. Chen said BlackBerry would continue to design the hardware and software for more expensive phones aimed at the European and North American markets, at least for now."

    Of course plans do change...

Does BlackBerry still have resources to build hardware by themselves? Do they still have production line?

I asked because this will definitely tell us if Passport is being produced by them or Foxconn is producing it now...

From the way I'm looking at this situation is that BlackBerry will be making the Passport for now. The Classic will be made by Foxconn BUT... Foxconn is a very nasty company and they see that BlackBerry needs them more so they are producing the Z3 in limited supplies only. I heard that Foxconn is getting all the profits from Z3 devices and BlackBerry gets nothing from this at all except to increase some market share.

I just hope BlackBerry could find another company to build lower end phones for them and not rely on Foxconn (which puts all its eggs inside the big Apple).
