So I have been attempting to access my flash drives and HDDs using the OTG cable, but my passport cannot detect the storage devices. I'm sure my OTG cable is working fine because my flash drives lit up when I connected them to the cable, also tested using a mouse which works perfectly well. My passport just refuses to connect to storage devices.

Any idea what the problem may be?

Have you tried going to the File Manager app and selecting USB as the storage location?

I can't do that since it wouldn't appear if it's not detected. Anyways while I was trying to source the problem, I realised my USB Mass Storage was on. So I turned it off and restarted my device. Now it's able to detect my flash drives, however not my external disk. When I connected my external disk to my passport, it says USB Device Problem, See Storage Settings For Details.
So I went to storage settings but there's not clue to what the problem may be. A pity though, well at least my flash drives are working now.

No issues with mine. Just bought a 64GB 3.0 USB and worked just fine! It might be the cable your using. I had 2 others that I got and it wouldn't detect, once I plugged the last one I got, it detected it, installed the drivers, went to file manager and saw my USB thumb drive.

What OS do you have installed? See mine below...

    Cheers!

External hdd requires additional power source to work. Passport would not be able to power it properly.
Better buy a usb powered hub for it. And then connect your external hdd. I am sure it will work.

I've gotten this problem IF my power level drops to less than 20%. The phone won't recognize the USB to go.

Charge the phone and try again. I'm sure it will work then.

Same with me. Mouse does work but no USB Storage. There must be an issue with the Passport and 10.3.2.2474
Everything works on my Z30 with 10.3.1.1784

is it possible that it doesn't like the filesystem being used? what filesystem are they formatted with? I doubt the bigger ones are FAT, and I don't know if it can recognise FAT32 or NTFS?

Recognises all FAT variants, but not NTFS as far as I am aware, and usually the cause of these issues I've found!

I also had an issue with NTFS. Formatted to fat and it worked.
