The ONLY thing standing in my way is that at work I require one handed typing a lot of the time. Where I wear gloves and it's a pain taking them both off in my line of work.

I'd like to hear if it is possible to type one handed and if there is a video PLEASE post it here!

I think you should consider using another device. Even on Z30, it is extremely uncomfortable to type one handedly.

I believe for most it's a two handed device. Not that it's a bad thing. It has eliminated any idea of me texting and driving

It's possible that if you're 6' 3" or taller that it may work. It's pretty awkward to hold though with one hand, as most phablets are, and not designed for one-handed typing.

I've been able to type one handed as need. But I don't do this as frequently as with other phones (Z30, Z10, etc), because still have to really stretch my thumb to hit the q,a and z keys.
Other than those I've been doing it easily. (I'm 6FT).

I have tried on the Passport but my fingers are not long enough. I am perfectly fine using two hands to type though.

What about using BlackBerry assistant? Shouldn't you be able to speak what you want to type if sending a text or email?

While I don't have one, big hands or not, I could see one-handed typing being an issue on the "Passport" across the keyboard and swiping, etc.

It is possible even with my not so big hands... possible yes... practical no, comfortable no... you can try to just stretch your thumb over, its a big time consuming stretch or rely on the swipe to type... or adopt creative holding methods like holding it across the bottom, this is probably the easiest... I've tried typing sideways even, it works but it's pretty difficult. So possible yes, but in all reality it's pretty hard just to browse a website one handed.

Hold the device sideways and take of the orientation lock thats how i do it while driving. To that guy that can palm a basketball, I believe you would be able to type with one hand. I come up two letters short.

It is possible but difficult. I suppose if you've really big hands or at least a long thumb you could do it easier

Have you tried turning it to 'landscape' and type with your thumb on the keyboard sideway?

I can type one-handed on it. I do have abnormally large hands, but I can do it. I'm actually typing this one-handed .

Definitely easier with one hand though

Also to note, if you're holding the phone with your gloved hand, then yes, it's definitely possible to one-hand type with your ungloved hand.

The average palm size widths for male respective female is 84 mm (3.30 in) and 74 mm (2.91 in).
( source: Average Hand Size - Your resource for Hand Size, Palm Size and Finger Length Averages )

Let’s assume someone who’s hand that is 74 mm wide (2.91 in) can handle a Z10 one handed. Z10 is 65.6 mm (2.58 in) wide. So that hand is 12.8 % wider than the Z10 device.

The passport is 90.3 mm (3.56 in) wide. To translate the above it would require a hand that is 102 mm (4 in) wide. I’ve read that a individual’s length is about 9 times the length of the hand. Meaning this individual probably is just above 2 meters (6 feet) tall.

Anyone with 74 mm wide hands that can handle a Z10 one handed? Or my calculus fails for just that reason. May be other errors as well :-)

Many reviewer have criticized Passport for not being a one handed device. Although many devices aren't good for one handed use ( iPhone 6+, Note 3...), Blackberry can address this issue easily with a software update if they are smart enough. They can add a one handed mode that is activated by pressing and holding one of the keys. This mode slides the contents of the screen to the right side creating a half an inch or so black band on the left side (for right handed people and vice versa for left handed people) and also pops up a virtual keyboard at the bottom of the screen complete with alt and shift keys. The physical keyboard can still work as a track pad. That should be easy to implement and Passport is an ideal device to benefit from this mode because the screen is not tall and you can reach all the surface of the screen while using it with one hand.
