I didn't ask the price. Was so excited that it was available so soon. Regardless of price, I'll be picking it up.

FWIW, I heard 200 on contract for 2 years until a certain date and then it'll be 250. However, it'll be 750 off contract, a far cry from 599.

Edit, the 30th is when the $200 contract offer ends. It'll be 250 after the 30th.

Just talked to Telus Mobility in Camrose, Alberta. Passbook available in three days (Had not pre-ordered until I called). Available in black only she said. $750 no term. $200. on a 2 year term for the first week. After first week $250 on 2 year term.

hmmm $750 retail? That was similar to my original expectations but my expectations were changed once the $599 USD story (in the USA) came out...might have to do it the contract way again

$750 is brutal (the device may be worth it but thats not the point). I know BlackBerry doesn't carry much weight with carriers in comparison to other manufacturers but they should be dictating this to be $599 off contract across the board. The way i see it is the carrier is tacking on an additional margin and to the consumer it makes it seem like BlackBerry has overpriced the device. All of their marketing material should be in stores with giant $599 on it.

As long as they price it at $599 on the Canadian shopblackberry.com portal then they didn't mislead anyone. Blackberry can't control carrier pricing. Carriers intentionally jack up off contract pricing in order to lock people into expensive contracts.

This just brings up how much I absolutely despise the 3 big Canadian carriers. Absolutely brutal plans. So, in order to get the passport for $200 on a 2-year contract a person must spend a minimum of $70 a month. And, that $70 does not get a person much. Probably 1 gig of data a month, not including their absolutely atrocious roaming rates.

Looks like I will be ordering my BlackBerry directly from BlackBerry, if possible.

If you have a really good loyalty and retention plan currently it may make more sense to just buy the phone outright. Anytime I have done this sort of comparison, buying outright was always cheaper over a 2 year term. Most people don't think this way. They see a sub $200 price and think they are getting a good deal. Makes me scratch my head how people are so unwilling to just buy a cell phone outright but will then go and blow 2 grand on a TV or some other expensive piece of electronics.

There's a rumour that Telus has a one-week exclusive, hence the the one-week better price.

Some people can't afford the upfront cost for an outright purchase, hence monthly payments

There's a chance it was originally pegged at $750, but since then Chen & Co. made the decision for a $599 MSRP.
Until it's officially for sale, nothing is 100% certain.
