For typing, I am thinking about going from a note 3 to a passport. I type a lot. However, I am also a smart watch fan. I wear my gear live everyday! I can check texts, emails, and notifications without taking out my phone at work.
I would hate to lose that!!
    Suggestions?

I'm not too sure about you, but I'm going to try out the Basis Peak. Basis has updated the Peak to have smartwatch notifications (Texts, Email, calendar, calls) alongside being a really good fitness tracker with heartrate tracking!

I have a Pebble watch and the Talk2Watch application and Hub2Watch application together give me all the notifications I need. They're paid applications, but we'll worth it.

Hate to tell you but it's a very cumbersome proposition. Like you, I also like smart watches, too much in fact. I own everyone of the Android Wear watches, and the Pebble, and the Gear 2, and the Gear S. Having the Passport, I lost the use of all those watches. Yes, the Pebble does work somewhat with the Blackberry. However, unlike with Android phones, I can't reply to sms, or Hangouts via the Pebble. So, the Gear S is the only watch I can wear at the moment since it works without being tethered to a phone via Bluetooth. I bought a Samsung S3 for cheap, connected it to wifi at home, then the Gear S can remote-connect to it, and retain most of the functions.

Ahh, so you understand!! I have heard that the gear one, the original, with the Null rom, could communicate with the blackberry but I'm not sure how. I have that gear as well (got it with my note 3!)
I'm going to have to do research!
I would love to have a watch that worked with the passport, especially considering the size of the phone!

It depends on one's definition of "fine". With Android, the Pebble can reply to messages, FB Messenger, email, etc. Plus, messages are displayed in their entirety. That's what smart watches should do, not just vibrate so I can pull out my phone to read the rest of the messages or perform an action on those messages.

I have the Pebble Steal and the Passport. Pebble battery lasts 5 Days. The new Pebble Time is due out in May and may be worth considering.

I think it depends on what functionality you want with a smartwatch in being paired with. I have a Pebble steel and I like the fact that I can get notifications discreetly and I have the option to then respond or not.

By the time it takes you to respond on your smartwatch for a sms, email, etc. I'd just take out the phone and be done with it. So I use it mainly for notifications and for that I'm more than happy using it.

I haven't tried the Sony smartwatch but I like Pebble so much that I'm getting the new Pebble Time steel as it will supposedly have 10 day life between charges, even though it's a colour face.
