    I recall seeing a gazillion cute/clever commercials for the Amazon Fire phone and it didn't sell. It might have been cheaper to give it away unlocked for free with Prime for life and a $100 gift card. And spread the word with a free tweet .

    BlackBerry certainly doesn't need to advertise the Passport in the U.S. until it's actually available here... at carriers, because that's how the general public here buys their devices.
