Will the passport have the same resolution as the s5 and 5s? Lets face it, blackberry is a very good phone however the screen is not that great compared to other phones out there.

    S5 ppi= 432
    5S ppi = 326

    Passport ppi= 453

That's pixels per inch. Therefore the passport will have a more dense pixel set up. Along with being an LCD screen that is much better to see in daylight and has less burn in as does AMOLED.

    Passport screen > S5 > 5S

Don't forget it's also kills these two in sound quality from its speakers as well.

But when passport gets into people hands, there will be ip6 and s6 which will again redefine the screen quality.

    Samsung only defines garbage.

With such dense pixels, if the color feels alright then I don't see there's anything left to be redefined.

I wonder why BlackBerry felt the need to increase ppi on the Passport beyond the S5 then. Hmm....

If we're looking at the "hottest " phone at the moment then the LG G3 is 534 ppi.

1440x1440 is just doubling the already existing 720x720. It's not anything to do with the S5, it's just a matter of increasing the screen size in a 1:1 ratio and needing to increase the resolution to avoid an awful looking screen. Which isn't a bad thing given the health care implications for the device. It just happens to be better than the S5 because of its ratio and doubling of resolution.

Simple, because of the target usage. CAD drawings, CRT and X-Rays need high resolution.

Wasn't my intended point, I was more so responding to the notion that "samsung only defines garbage" when it's Samsung who consistently up the ante on specifications.

Wait, what? The screen and the camera aren't related, if that's what you think.

Why does the iPhone gets thrown into conversations about great screens. The Z10 has a better screen than the iPhone 5s people. The Z10 has a 720p HD display. The.iphone isn't even 720p. 355 ppi > 326 ppi

I think it is very unlikely that the iPhone 6 resolution will be as dense as the passport. Apple likes to keep their phones very thin, which means small batteries. All else being equal, dense screens take more power.

Although the OP has specifically mentioned resolution, it is important to keep things in perspective. Ppi is just one of many factors that contribute to the quality of a phone. Colour saturation, accuracy, contrast, white balance, brightness are all important and more so after ppi is beyond a certain point. For example even though the iPhone has among the lowest resolutions on the market, the screen quality is consistently among the best due to the emphasis on these other factors.

And they all prefer a screen that is bigger than 4.5 inches.
If anything, the Passports specs are an acknowledgement from BlackBerry of the spec race.

    Oh, it's you Bluenoser!
Didn't you say that1080p is a waste on screens so small and that the human eye can't see the difference anyhow?
    What about 1440p?

I opened the topic since in comparison with the 5s and the samsung screens then viewing the same pictures my z30 is not even in the same league as them. They have more clarity, color on the picture. Was hoping the same for passport.

Well I'm pretty sure the iPhone 6 will double up res opposed to the 5S. Which is 2,272 x 1,280 @ 4.7" = 555 PPI.

    The LG G3 isn't 2k, it's 2.56k to be exact.

"2k" means nothing more than the longer screen side of a widescreen panel (usually 16:9) has "around 2,000" pixels, which most of the time is just Full HD, so 1080p (1,920 x 1,080). The LG G3 has 2,560 x 1,440 instead).
