I came to Passport from Q10 and loved the bedside mode feature. The Passport screen is too bright while in BM. The Q10 dims down so that only the clock face will glow but it seems the back light in the Passport does not go out. I've driven myself crazy trying to figure this out.

Any suggestions?

Different screen technologies.

The Q10 uses LEDs, they operate individually, so when it's displaying black they are actually off.

The Passport uses LCD, which uses a backlight that is always on when used and then light is individually blocked in order to achieve darker colors. If the back light was off, you wouldn't see anything at all.

If you press on the lock button, it will shut down the screen while you're sleeping. In my case, I don't need to see the clock while sleeping, but I understand some people do.

This is the answer, except it's OLEDS in the Q10, I'm pretty sure even LED back-lit screens can't go pure blacks.
