Now the end is really near for BB10, I don't want an Android for sure. An Apple iPhone, an iffy maybe...what is out there when I decide to upgrade my mobile platforms, may it be a phone or a tablet? What are the real choices out there?

I think Jolla is in certain regions, where are you? I'm in the US and when I researched this I don't believe Jolla was available, not sure about now. I would like to hear some feedback as well.

Well if it really is just between an android based phone and an iPhone...I guess when the time comes it will be an iPhone 7...I really wished the BlackBerry stuck it out...sad, I guess...for us BB10 users...

Now THIS is exciting. Original Jolla phone was lauded for its well-designed UI and aesthetic, but criticised for the buggy/unfinished software. Surely if Sony release a handset, it'll be the 'real deal'? First real new mobile OS since BB10? I'd be more inclined to get one of these, than a 'blackdroid' when my Passport becomes obsolete.

I hope that with Jolla and Sony make it our alternative to BB10. I remember my old Nokia N900, it actually kinda shares a kin ship with the BlackBerry Passport as it was a uniquely different OS with a 3 row keyboard(sliding up to close, down to access the keyboard) , if I am not mistaken...hehehe...keyboard madness is what it was...since I was a Linux user, I felt quite at home with the little beast of a phone...I think I still have it...I will try to find it and share a picture of that ancient PC of a phone...hahaha

Well dude, this is exactly my same question. I really hate Android in all its aspects. Pay to be spied by Google not make me feel particularly smart, and Android eternal bugs always make me feel absolutely annoyed - I had tons of Android because work, last one was a S7 Edge, all had bugs, simply ALL.

For some years I had webOS devices (Palm Pre and Pre3) and Blackberry devices (Passport) exactly because I didn't want to use the crap named Android and didn't want to pay so much cash for an iPhone. Well... webOS and BlackBerry, as you know, are history now, and so what? What choices do we have?

I'm afraid I'll have to tell you the iPhone is the ONLY ONE alternative we have right now. I own an iPhone 7 Plus right now, no complaints about it. There is a Windows Phone too, but it is a complete joke what Microsoft do with it, don't invest a single penny here. Yes, this market was a long way better few years ago. Now for us who don't accept Google rules, iPhone is the only option, unfortunately.

The iPhone 7 is my truly last resort. I totally agree with you. My hope is that another springs up in the place of BlackBerry OS 10. I checked out Ubuntu, but there does not seem to be any current models for sale. I hope that the Sony - Jolla partnership to produce a good smart phone comes through. I imagine if the first version they come out with is all touch, then they come out with a keyboard version ( reminds me constantly of Nokia N900) . I think it can be done if Sony-Jolla come up with a good hardware design, and a rock solid operating system. They maybe at a right time and place for such a device from them. That would be awesome...just think about it...

I really anticipate it, too. I still consider N900 the best smartphone I had by far, and would love to see the real successor Nokia wasn't capable to offer. Let's wait and see.

But, until there... Unfortunately, only iPhone.

I do not think it would be impossible for Sony-Jolla to take advantage of such a situation...it maybe a door out for Sony not to depend on only "Google"...not to be a plain Jane android phone maker...would it set them apart from other smartphone manufacturers? A new identity if you will..."Sony - Jolla"

It is somewhat weird to quote my own quote, but a thought occurred to me that the reverse can be sadly said of BlackBerry. It has some what lost it's own identity by being just another Android collaborator.

I do not believe that the transformation that they are doing is the evolution of things to come. I think they will fail miserable. Maybe another Nokia. Where is their good faith?

They have lost their branding. They have lost their bond with consumers like ourselves.

If there really was "a ghost in a shell"...that sense of betrayal in the end is what it really is in my opinion of what BlackBerry has done to its BlackBerry users.

It is some what sad that an institution as such that is BlackBerry, the de facto standard of what a smartphone should be is no longer with it's roots.

I really hope that a joint venture of Japanese hardware powerhouse "Sony" and upcoming Finnish mobile platform company "Jolla" really get it on...and eventually design, build and sell us (BlackBerry users in "limbo") with a super awesome keyboard mobile device...

Man no matter what fanboys say, BlackBerry is dead. Unfortunately. Change to Android proves it. Try to convince world that it is a way to make a secure and trusty Android, confirms it even more. For me, a brand always trusted by its secure join Google to sell Android phones sounds anything but a big joke. Really a shame.

I totally and sadly agree with you. I will miss the BlackBerry platform when my BlackBerry phones eventually die of to the sunset. I hope by that time the Sony-Jolla or some other mobile platform that arises from the ashes of BlackBerry OS 10 rescues us from the limit of the only two choices currently available. If by that time there is non then it's off to Apple iPhone I think I will go...

Before spending good money on what is practically beta and may be a real PITA overall, why not get cheap used Android and Windows phones to play with to see if they meet your needs?
