Removed my passport from the cover for a week as I dint like the cover. The paint started chipping immediately even though it's handled properly. Another questionable build issue.

    Anyone else facing this issue?

No paint issues with my Big Red. I have had it since February. I use the OEM black hard case and it looks awesome with the black Frame.

You're such an example of "behave responsibly" with your phones, I know BBs are resilient but they aren't Nokias. (sarcasm intended)

Here's your picture, never dropped my passport. Just flaking off (all the corners are flaked too). You can see the paint flakes on my finger too. Abit annoyed tbh.

Just noticed same thing. Paint came off on bottom right hand corner where the palm of my hand rests when using it. Thought perhaps it was something stuck to the frame so rubbed it... resulted in more paint coming off.

Had a black Q10 before which I guess was painted, no issues with that.

Perhaps someone can set up a poll to see how widespread this quality issue is.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Are you a fingerstyle guitarist that only uses nail on the index finger?

On topic: another build quality issue to add to the list. If it bothers you enough, I bet that would qualify for replacement. I was hoping BlackBerry anodized the metal and didn't use paint.

    You photoshop it!!!

Just kidding. That's odd - unless it was hit hard or that particular area was exposed to some sort of chemical that made the colour stripped off easily OR it was really a substandard painting process they used (just to maintain the production cost low).

Just wondering, is it covered by warranty?

Ah well. I guess seven months in active use is not too bad as far as paint durability goes. It's actually sort of a relief to see that the chip is contained and not resulting in a long crack along the frame. Time for some nail polish.

I wouldn't be so quick to call this a quality issue because paint, even when applied using anodizing, is a thin film over the surface and bound to wear out at some point, especially over metal. It's actually curious that the side chipped before the keyboard frets that are exposed and rubbed more frequently...

Reading up on anodizing, it might actually have been used here because, apparently, the process trades thermal resistance and brittleness for resistance to age-related cracking and peeling.

No paint issues--Ringke cover stays on except for scheduled cleaning. However, my back cover has some wiggle to it, if you know what I mean. Of course if you don't, then yours doesn't.

I had the exact same problem. BlackBerry issued me an advance replacement after a bit of back and forth. Go to this link https://consumersupport.webapps.blac...orm/shopbb_en/ and submit your issue. I suggest supplying links to pictures that show the chipping paint and make sure you insist on an advance replacement, not a repair.

Thanks, I contacted them about this. Otherwise I love the phone, it's been great. I was honestly *really* surprised to see it just flake like that.

Just wanted to report back that Blackberry support has been terrible. They have not responded to me either via email or Twitter about this issue.
