    As I was on the phone (black Passport of course), I noticed if I looked at just the correct angle there was a red blinking light going on and off during the conversation. This was a bit to the left of the BB symbol and "BlackBerry" on the top of the device. I looked up the Passport on the BB website and noticed there is actually a space there for some reason. After looking at the Passport closer I can see this "open" area. I attached the pic which relieved a little stress from me thinking something may have been wrong. Any idea of the purpose of this?

    It's a proximity sensor. So the screen would turn off when you bring your face to it during the call.

    Makes sense... was on the phone and saw this light blinking red and had no idea it was even there lol. Have a screen protector on and it's difficult to see on the black without better lighting. Wonder why it blinks red during the convo; guess just part of the process. Knew I'd get a quick answer here. Thank you!

    It's a proximity sensor, it has two parts, the "light" as you call it and the sensor
