I regularly make backups of my passport to my computer, but I have some questions about it.

1. How come when I perform a back up I am not prompted to encrypt the back up data? Is it because my device is not encrypted? I would prefer not to encrypt my passport, but would like to encrypt the data backed up in my computer. I would also like to know the location of the back up file. I use Windows 10

2. In the event of a lost phone, Is there a way to recover the data from the back up file without having to restore it to another phone? If not, can I at least sync calendar and contacts to say, gmail or live.com?

I am assuming you use BlackBerry Link to backup? I do too.. why do you need the backup encrypted if it's not on your phone?

I guess u could use a 3rd party program/app?

As to the location on Link, there is a setting where you can choose where the back up is stored.

I have mine stored on an external RAID, I am still using win 7

I want the back up encrypted because I am not always with my computer, but that does not answer my question, which was, why am I not given the option to encrypt when backing up? I am using link.
