I ordered a new, sealed Passport off eBay that will be delivered this week. What version of the OS will it come with and is there a way to avoid updating to the most recent version? I've read several posts saying that 10.3.3 is worse than it's predecessor.

There is no way of telling which OS it will come with. While I disagree that updating to 10.3.3 is a bad thing to do, you can disable automatic updates. Before you put your sim into the Passport, swipe down from the top/settings/software updates/options (at screen bottom)/disable automatically download and install software updates. As long as this is disabled you can stay on the OS that was installed originally.

The phone was discontinued before 10.3.3 was released, so you can be assured it won't come with that if it's truly new and sealed. If you do an OTA update you will get 10.3.3 though. Use an autoloader to install the latest stable 10.3.2 and then don't install any updates from there.

So you recommend going ahead with 10.3.3 ? I usually prefer to run the most recent OS on whatever device I'm using for obvious reasons. I've just read a lot of complaints about the latest BB10 version.

Hard to argue with the complaints. But then, all you would hear about are the complaints. Few people post new threads about how great everything is running.

Although, check those complaint threads, because you will usually find several post by those saying they don't have those problems. I'm guilty of doing that myself. Usually, it's just to show that maybe it's not the OS but a specific isolated issue or incompatibility that user is experiencing.

I've been here long enough to see complaints with almost every new OS that comes out.

I do recommend 10.3.3.2205, especially since you are setting it up for the first time. If you do it OTA and have problems you can always get the autoloader from Thurask's repository on Mega or Google Drive here: https://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-l...links-1098162/ . It is VERY easy to use the autoloader. Just get the Passport autoloader, download it to your PC desktop, unzip it to give you an .exe file, then plug your Passport in to your PC and click the .exe file. It is really difficult to screw that up and if you do (wrong autoloader etc) just do it again. The process only takes 15 minutes or so and then you can set up your phone with accounts etc. You are seeing complaints about 10.3.3 mostly from people who have done OTA updates and not clean installs. Since your device will have nothing on it from the start, and may have 10.3.1.xxxx, I think I would probably do the 10.3.3.2205 autoloader, but if you want to experiment just do the OTA. It is easy to go to the autoloader if you run into problems. Good Luck!

You can but it has to be through Parallels I believe. Someone may correct me on this but pretty sure it has to be through a windows emulator.

That's ok. If you have no trouble with it you may as well leave it alone. There are no great improvements or features you are missing anyway. Some day if you are bored you can always stick a different OS on there

I agree. My Passport was factory sealed with 10.3.2 which means it was manufactured after July 2015. I see no reason to load the latest version since 10.3.2 doesn't have the issues that 10.3.3 seems to have. It works perfectly so far. As they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I think the actual manufacture date is a three character code behind the SIM/SD panel on the back, either in the center under the do not throw in the trash label (original) or next to the label for the SIM card (Silver Edition).
