    Is it possible to self solder a USB type C on passport? I am thinking ahead in case we no longer have bb10 support in the near future, and self modification will give a fresh look and feature to passport.

    you don't get usb-C features just because you physically attach it to your phone even if it were possible. You also need driver/software support.
    If you just want to use new cables there are usb-c to micro usb adapters out there but it doesn't provide a performance difference.
