Hi all was wondering did the BlackBerry do the right thing by releasing limited volume thru the market demand and wait for the climb and then level the demand...is it a good strategy or a risk taken in calculated agenda...since almost all over the world wherever BlackBerry PP was launched till date there is shortage
..and this if continues the issue is will the demand rise or vanish

    TIA

I don't know if you could say with authority that they did the right thing. But you can definitely say that they did NOT do the WRONG thing of over producing and then being stuck with another massive unsold inventory write-off.

Given the unknown nature of the device, and the less than popular support for the brand. I think the approach taken by BlackBerry was really the only one.

Business wise, probably nailed it. For the consumer(who have had to deal with the initial lack of communication) probably screwed up.

In a way it created a lot of buzz. The supply was low and everyone who wanted one could not get a hold of it. Shows there is still a huge demand for Blackberry.

My order date was October 4th (late 3rd). My device was made/packaged on the 9th.

In terms of business, they won't get stuck with unsold stock doing it that way (although I'm sure it wasn't planned to work out like that).

I guess production planning guy from heins era may still be around. Remember the PlayBook and z10 writeoffs and price drop? So they must have undershoot production now, so when deman and fascination petered out, it's all the same again.

I like their strategy, even though my order was delayed for a week.

There's no way they did this on purpose.

You can call it bad marketing for not realizing the product's demand, but this is much better than producing too much like they have done in the past.
