There's some overlap between the uplink/downlink frequency ranges of band 17 and band 28, both of which are FD-LTE bands:

band 17: [704, 716] UL and [734, 736] DL
band 28: [703, 748] UL and [758, 803] DL

I'll have to look at what the FCC measured ranges for band 17 in the SQW100-1 were, but it is possible that the SQW100-1 could work on the band 28 network, if the NZ carriers allow band 17 devices to access their band 28 networks. Band 12 in the phone would have been even better because 17 is a fully enclosed subset of 12, and 12's UL starts at 699 MHz.

But let me ask you this, zocster: I see that NZ (and Aus) has a band 3 LTE network already. Is this band 28 network (at least in NZ) supposed to fill the holes in LTE coverage, or does it supplement the existing band 3 network and/or help alleviate congestion?

My gut feeling is the latter but not so sure. Vodafone had only last year switched on the APT band, so I think they're actually starting from scratch.

Two finger swipe upwards (for Z3 / Z10 / Z30) does not invoke keypad on Passport.

I actually got a question for you guys. I am on Vodafone Italy at the moment, although I might switch to an American provider, as I will relocate to the States for work by April.
I am looking around on the Internet where I could get a Passport at a decent price. If I buy it on the Blackberry US online store will I get an unlocked Blackberry SQW100-1 (fully functional on Vodafone Italy)? Specifications on the US store state:
US: FD-LTE:1,2,3,4,5,7,8,13,17,20
US: HSPA+: 1,2,4,5,6,8,EDGE

GERMAN STORE SPECIFICATIONS: LTE: 3,7,8,20
HSPA: 1,2,5/6,8, EDGE

According to this thread, I understood that there is just one Blackberry Passport model (SQW100-1) that works (with fully or partial compatibility) on the vast majority of network bands, as shown in the first picture.

From what I can tell, Vodafone Italy uses UMTS band 1, and LTE band 3, so you will be fine with this model of the Passport. Italian carriers in general are all fully compatible with the Passport.

No . . . Band 5-enabled phones will not work in Japan. (They will work in South Korea, I suppose. )

Correct me if Im wrong but i went through the list of all the blackberry z30 models, and I believe that the passport actually has everything included.. all the different bands..Which means that the passport should work anywhere a bb z30 works no matter of its variant..Is that correct?

If Im correct then it will definitely work in the UK and in Cyprus.. I also bought a Z30 Stl100-2 for my brother who lives in Australia and it definitely works under optus (i think its optus that he has his contract with because its a bit cheaper than Telstra..) and it will definitely work in Malaysia (my brother travels a lot there for his work, not sure which carrier he is using though..)

Correct (as long as you don't count the CDMA Z30s' CDMA bands)

Right. This model of the Passport is comparable to the Z30 STA100-2. The right-most column is supposed to compare the Passport models to other comparable BB10 phones. I should have explained that better, so I'll work on that.
