My Passport reboots with the volume keys... So I don't know why yours doesn't!?

    BlackBerry|Q10, SQN100-3, OS 10.2.1.2941; BlackBerry|Passport, SQW100-1, OS 10.3.0.675
When I hold both volume keys it just keeps cycling the word BlackBerry on off on off on off... never gets to reboot screen. Same when I hold power button.

I do know how it's supposed to work as I often did that on Z10. But it does not work on my Passport.

One of the most frustrating things about the BlackBerry of today is that different folks get so many different results.

And the end all proposed solution always seems to be wipe and reload software.

Sorry BlackBerry but that is unacceptable for a rig that's touted to support making me efficient and get my work done.

Am I the only one finding that keyboard swiping only works in select few apps?

And it doesn't work to swipe through multiple home screens? UNBELIEVABLE!!

Ironically it doesn't even work in the email from BlackBerry touting the Passport!

    Sad...

I was just poking around the browser and noticed that pressing W opens the tabs menu. That's actually something I had not noticed before and it is pretty useful.

I got used to these in my browser, barely touching the screen when surfing the web with my Q10:

    In 10.2.1+
    "W"indow (open Tab)
    "R"eader mode
    "U"RL-Adress line
    "S"earch within page
    "L"oad page again/refresh
    "P"revious page
    "N"ext page
"T"op of the page (go to/show) on the screen
"B"ottom of the page (go to/show) on screen
"SPACE" to scroll down screen by screen
Zoom "I"n (like finger pinch zoom)
Zoom "O"ut (like finger pinch zoom)

    In the calendar:
    "D"ay view
    "W"eek view
    "M"onth view
    "P"revious ... and
"N"ext (day/week/month within the selected viewing mode)

YES! i too was absolutely shocked by this. It's unbelievable, you would think it would be so intuitive anyone would think of doing it. I gave my phone to my brother to play with (he has never touched this device before), he automatically assumed he would be able to swipe through the home screens using the keyboard only to find disappointment.

Also why is there no 'cursor' option while you are using the web browser? also why is there no option to change scroll speed setting? so many missed opportunities by blackberry its unbelievable...

Indeed... if the key lock is not enabled, the Q10 can be awaken by the numbered keys, "WERSDFYXC0". I don't know if it is the OS10.3. or only the Passport... On my Passport, it does not work :/

I think that is intentional right? Would increase the number of pocket dials by a lot probably.

For the Calendar, pressing T brings you back to "today" (week/day/agenda), G for Go To, A for agenda view and S for searching.

But most importantly for the Passport:
Two Finger Swipe switches between weeks in Agenda view.
To use this easily hold one finger on the corner of the keyboard an swipe Left or Right with the other.

Unfortunately E for editing appointments no longer works.

    I got a question....
Is it possible to install full virtual keyboard for those who may need alphabet from other languages like Japanese, Persian, Thai or etc?
    10-21-14 11:14 PM

    ???
These languages are supported. They can be typed via the regular keyboard as long as you know the layout. So technically when you know the language typing it shouldn't become an issue.

10.3.1 brings even more compatible languages. Each of these languages gets their own symbols list on the Passport, for example Japanese gets 4 symbol pages instead of two:

Thank you very much for reply. is Farsi (Persian) or Arabic supported the same way?

I'm not sure. The languages are all written in their native signs and I can't read all of them.
I do know 10.3.1 will add new languages for sure, the list there was much longer.

Whenever you swipe down on the keyboard when entering text and it brings up the alternate characters to stay there after pressing a letter on the keyboard?
I know you can hold down the @123 button to keep the secondary characters there to use, but is there a way by swiping?

By swiping down, it is like hitting alt then the key... you have the virtual keyboard with the key mapping:

    Passport keyboard tips-img_20141024_192446.png

After typing the character from the physical keyboard, the virtual keyboard disappears immediately... so it is swipe down+key, swipe down+key, etc.

But if you want to write many special characters in a row, say a number, call the virtual keyboard by swiping down, then type from the screen... the virtual keyboard remains available... here a screenshot, while typing from the screen, the keyboard remains available:

I edited my post above... I don't know if it is all understandable...

Say I want to type this: "Hi=Hello"
It is this way: swipe down L Hi swipe down P Hello swipe down L
No other gesture, no need to make the virtual keyboard disappear since it does that spontaneously. The trick is:
Swipe down and type from physical keyb for one character
Swipe down and type from screen for several characters/numbers

This is not a shortcut, and I don't even know if it's a new feature. If you go into Settings, Language and input, and then Feedback, you can turn on Vibrate on correction. The phone then vibrates every time it autocorrects something. I find this very useful as I'm getting used to the keyboard, since it tells me when I've screwed something up. Usually when I type, I'm looking at the keys, not what I'm typing, so having that little buzz tells me I need to glance at my text to make sure it still reads the way I want.

The up and down volume button reboot option does not worl on the Passport. Did it many times on Z10... doesn't work on Passport.

crackberry_geek, I was having the same issue, but somebody helped me out and said it's changed a little. As soon as you see the "Blackberry" logo, let go of the volume buttons and it will hard boot, just like previously on your Z10 (and my Q10), except no need to hold the buttons down for the whole boot process. I was stumped till a helpful CB member explained it to me. Hope this helps.
