After seeing CellPhoneJunkey's post on another thread, I wanted to start a thread to see what people are doing to make their own Passport case.

He used a Louis Vuitton passport holder. Very classy.

But, you don't have to spend a ton of money on a passport cover.

So, beyond that, I'd like to see some hacks of passport covers or whatever to get your Passport protected. When the white Passport arrives in November, I will be getting one (wife already approved the purchase, cause she gets my Z30). I don't think a holster will do and I don't want a sleeve. And even though there are other flip cases available and some promised, there's nothing better than a completely custom DIY project.

Please include any issues, cautions, tips and etc for what you did.

    Thanks!

Hey so this is what I did. You need to get industrial strength double sided Velcro, I recommend going to your local big box arts store (Michaels arts store). It was cut to a strip about 3 inches long. Industrial strength double sided Velcro looks like the regular version just that it has a much stronger adhesive. Of which becomes permanently bonded on after 24hours.
The Lious Vuitton passport folio has a side pocket on the right side and I wanted rear access to that pocket once the Velcro and hard shell case/device is attached. Prior to attaching the Velcro I rubbed both surfaces with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil or film which may cause the adhesive from the double sided Velcro to not stick.
I chose to not directly attach the phone because I did not want to ruin the back cover finish. SO instead I attached it to the hard shell since it fit anyways.

I might go ahead and buy the hard shell case and start experimenting with a cheap passport holder.
I've got almost a month until the white one is available.

I know some people want the magnet that turns off the device when it closes.
And, it would be great if the holder could act like a stand as well.
Then there is the question of seeing the LED when the case is closed.

Ya I'm going to do the same, until the OEM case is out....

    Is this cheap enough? :P

Wow. And it even has metal edges.

You could start your own Passport case business with prices that low.

Was thinking of grabbing one of these. Like how it says "Passport" and then has some card slots.

It would be really cool to get a passport case that says the country on the outside. And of course get a different country name on the front then of the country that you are a citizen of.

This is cool. And the BlackBerry plastic shell is perfect for this hacked together case.

Looking good ! I'm thinking if there are any problems that The Passport is a bit thicker than a ordinary passport ? So s problem that the Passport folio will not close properly ?

Walmart Canada has a leather AirCanada branded passport case in their luggage section for about $10. I bought one, cut out the vinyl window and then cut out a window for the camera. I used a special double sided tape used for mounting pictures (Scotch ATG) that doesn't harden and removes cleanly to mount the passport.

Attached are a couple photos. I should have cleaned some of the dust off the case before photographing it Note the slit in the left side of inside of the case, near the bottom. I glued in a magnet from an old case so the sleeper function works.

Can you post a picture of the device in the case! This is the type of case I'm looking for, just not sure how the device would look in it.

    Thanks for everyone providing feedback.

I purchased the Visconti Passport Cover. $20 USD is a good price and as lonestar1135 pointed out, it has slots for credit cards and such. This was something I was looking for as well. There are a few different options for that side of the passport cover, but having something is better than nothing.
    Passport Case DIY-amazon_passport_2.png

I also purchased the Gel Rubber Soft Skin cover. Just on price alone. There are no reviews, so I don't know how well it will work.
    Passport Case DIY-passport-softrubberskin.png

So, I will be getting the two main components of my cheap case build.
I've been searching the interwebs for a grommet that would fit over the camera hole area. Still no luck, but maybe after I get the case, I will be able to have measurements or figure something else out. I also want to open a hole up over the BlackBerry symbol. I think I can find a circular grommet that will work for that.

Of course, the biggest issue will be finding a in stock White Passport in November.

    Keep posting your projects!

You need the OEM hardcase for your build imo.

Most likely. But, we'll see how it goes.
That's why I am going the cheap route at first.

I ordered that same clear gel case to use with the OEM flipcase I pre-ordered. also ordered the OEM hardshell but I think i'll use that one separately rather than stick the flipcase to it.

These cases are really nice but no way to expose the led notification? Perhaps I'll hack something up from my old Q5 flip cover, it's designed with a sort of light magnification to brighten the red light

closes and fits fine. I used hockey tape and taped it inside of the pocket so I can still use the camera by folding the case over
