I bet the Passport still costs around $800. They lied about the Z3 pricing too.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a pretty reliable source, the price WILL be 599, as you typed in your thread title....

BlackBerry Passport will cost $599 without subsidies | CrackBerry.com

Or are you just trying to stir people up?

Haha what a huge fail OP, huge fail.

Chen has said it's 599 now if retailers are selling it for more to increase their profits then that isn't BlackBerry's fault. That's the greedy retailers.

If demand for the Passport is actually high enough that retailers can get away with gouging like that, it's very good news indeed, because that would mean it's a bona fide hit.

Exactly what I think as well, if retailers are going to bump the price up on them to keep up with demand then fair dues to them. I don't agree with this practice and I stay away from such retailers but that's my choice.

I do hope it is a success for BlackBerry, the passport that is. I really want BlackBerry to get back to the top or very near the top. Just can't imagine using any other device other than a BlackBerry and I've used every single platform out there and nothing touches bb10 in my honest opinion.

So if you know the Passport is what you want, then it's probably a good thing to pull the trigger as soon as you can. I hope the US market don't have to wait for too long.

So the Telus (Canada) price is being stated at $700-750... which seems ridiculous if it's going to be $599 in the USA.

Carrier gouging? Or is the Passport only being priced competitively in the USA?

Yes. Except when we're give pricing, we're not accounting for taxes.

So it would be nice to get the actual cost, even if it does add up to 750.

When they are saying 750, we can only take it as meaning starting st 750 with taxes and etc. On top

Clearly you suck at math then because based on the current exchange rate. Also tax rates wouldn't be taken into account in either price.

    1 USD = 1.10459 CAD

    599 USD = 661.65 CAD which is a far cry from 750

The other point of contention is that on the shop BlackBerry website the prices are equivalent for the US and Canadian sites.

I'm going to buy the Passport either way, $750 isn't much to spend and it's totally worth that price point... I was merely suggestion that it seems strange they would heavily discount the device in the USA but not in their home market, which leads me to believe it's another example of Canadian Carrier gouging.

Since the Z3 isn't available in western markets, I don't think you can directly judge about this pricing. Besides you usually can't convert 1:1 costs of products in country A and country B, 1:1 price conversations virtually never happen.

Besides the retailers have the last word on pricing. For grpahics cards for example, I've seen many retailers selling those above suggested retail pricing the first couple of days. Why? Because they can. There are always "I want to be the first!" nerds and die-hards who happily pay the bonus just because they want the device ASAP. Other people will wait a week or two when they drop to MSRP and will buy it. Easy buck for the retailers, I can't even really blame them, as long as people are willing to pay their premium fee...

Hopefully not double-typed with my Q10
