Hi Shermaine, by default BB10 has an option enabled to automatically download & install OS updates.

You can find that option here, and change it if you like:

"Mandatory update" means that it apparently overrides the "Automatically Download and Install software Updates" setting, which I had turned off.

My wife's Classic finished the update first and seems initially ok. My Passport just finished downloading and will need restarting soon.

My only concern with this is that I have had trouble backing up my Passport for awhile now. I'm not keen on having no control over when to update. Even though my device should be fine, I plan to give AT&T a piece of my mind about this.

I have never heard about "mandatory updates" or any updates being forced on a BlackBerry device.

Do you have any links or documentation for that?

My guess is that you should check that toggle switch each time you restart your phone. I found it on on my Z30 when i had it set to off. I turned it back off, have been using simcard in Z30 for only a week now, no update yet i do have the update notification reappearing in the hub.

Yes, I did check the switch as soon as I realized what was happening - was still turned off as the update was downloading, so the setting was somehow overridden by AT&T. BTW, my Passport was updated without issue.

Lots of people have received this. In fact, anyone in the US apparently with a BlackBerry 10 device was forced to update. You can stop the update if you turn off wi-fi before it downloads. Otherwise you have no choice.

Apparently it's because of a new law in the states regarding security or something.

Even with that Setting toggled Off, you will still receive notification of an OS update being available.

Regardless, these members are saying some of them had it Off, and then it still automatically downloaded and installed.
