I actually read your previous post twice before commenting. I simply was unaware of these differences that you mentioned without much explanation as if everyone should know. I'm grateful for the more thorough response, and the article was a good read as well. Cheers.

No problem. I know not everyone is familiar with MHL and Slimport, even though MHL is included in well over 200 different devices.

So let me get this straight, on my Z30 I go home hook up my hdmi Cable to my Z30 and my USB cable to a hub and to a mouse and keyboard. I then login to my Splashtop and have my work laptop basically in front of me. Now going forward it's the screen or the keyboard? Or let's say I want to use the HDMI out for movies when I'm on traveling I can't charge it now at the same time. Sounds like a big step backwards. May need to just not get a new BlackBerry this year and keep my Z30 longer than I planned. Good move BlackBerry take away what I need for work.

Ok, you can charge and use micro HDMI at the same time with a Slimport adapter as seen in the picture above. Not sure if you can plug USB devices like keyboard etc into the adapter instead of the charger, but I don't see why not. Perhaps someone can confirm? I don't see this as a step backwards, I think it does exactly the same thing as two separate ports, but with added display compatibility properties. I don't see what the fuss is about, yes you have to buy a small adapter, but so what? They're cheap enough for God's sake. And for anyone saying "oh no, now I need two cables", just don't remove the adapter from the micro HDMI cable ever and boom! Effectively one cable no?

I don't care about adapters I'll buy whatever. I didn't think it could do all at once.
    Thanks

    Nope.

    Straight Bluetooth.

A lot of the new ones are limited to that wifi dingle though. I know what you're talking about.

I don't have the packaging anymore so I'm not sure of the exact model.

I'm pretty sure this is the same keyboard https://forums.crackberry.com/e?link...token=TQirS8Pd

And this is the mouse https://forums.crackberry.com/e?link...token=QLVLtHjr

An image of what I use is below to compare/confirm

I have always had good success with the logitechs.

I also bought the Samsung one that had a touch pad integrated but I returned it because I mainly needed it for use with my TV that apparently was not compatible.

    Fwiw,

I just discovered that even the hot keys on the Microsoft keyboard work

For example, the play/pause button pauses music and videos, the volume buttons control the volume, the esc button gets you out of full screen video.

So, is it a Slimport or MHL? Even Blackberry on their own site does not say and the manual cannot be more vague (page 158 of BlackBerry Passport Smartphone User Guide) :

Connect your device to an HDMI display
    1. Using an HDMI cable, connect your BlackBerry device to an HDMI display.

Looking on the web, I found sites that say it's a Slimport and other saying it's a MHL port. So, what is it ?!? And what makes you think it's that type of a port?

EDIT: So a post here mentioned this link :

    http://www.businesswire.com/multimed.../#.VCoJgRaNaFl

"Analogix Semiconductor (maker of Slimport), Inc. announced that the newly released BlackBerry Passport features a built-in SlimPort interface solution, which allows it to connect to boardroom projectors and large screen displays for a seamless high-definition viewing experience".

I hear that the new units, (Passport and Classic) won't come with this adapter.

Blackberry chose to go with this configuration as opposed to the HDMI port. Why then are they not including the adapter?

    Blackberry always.....
Apple doesn't come with apple tv, you do have to buy adapters sometime lmao.

Using hdmi on its own puts enough stress on the micro hdmi plug. Would not adding an adaptor add more leveraged stress ?
I use hdmi out alot with my hdtv.
