You don't even have PIM services listed, so could that be the source of my problem?

There is something abnormal about your 56% system usage. This indicate that your PP is running something on the background continuously. It can be many reasons for that, commonly malicious programs or defective sd card resulting the phone keep indexing.

I would suggest to do a complete back-up of your phone, take the micro sd card out, do a security wipe clean and reinstall or upgrade your software and start a fresh. Perhaps try a newer micro sd card also

This is job for some user to pretend they are using BlackBerry and thus they got rights to bash BlackBerry senseless way! TROLL NEVER STOP!

Diplomacy is not your strong suit. As a long-time blackberry user, I have earned the right to bash Blackberry when they keep making foolish decisions. Assembly of Passport and poor QC is the latest. Actually I rather like BB10 with Hub!

Crap battery life. Seemingly caused by PIM Services and System.

The wipe and reinstall made no difference

OS was reloaded 9 days ago sadly.

My next thought (comments welcomed) was to backup all contacts to the backup pro app, then delete completely from the device for a couple of days.

I say reset the device to factory then use it that way for two days to see. If it works well, then more than likely it is an app or data causing the issue.

Hi James. First off, congrats on the new Passport!! I've had mine since launch, and it's still going strong!

I have a few things that I think you should check (and change if necessary) to improve battery life. I've found that these small changes make a world of difference!:

1). Keep screen brightness as low as you can & only crank it up as needed, such as when outdoors in full sunlight. LCD displays, particularly this large one, are real battery hogs.

2). Turn off sending of usage data. This collects and periodically sends data to BlackBerry. Go to 'Settings', 'Security & Privacy', and 'Diagnostics' to turn this off.

3). Turn off sending of traffic data. Go to 'Settings', 'Location Services', and then off 'Traffic Data Collection'.

4). Don't allow screen to turn on for new notifications. If you're like me, you're screen will be on all day! Go to 'Settings', 'Security & Privacy', 'Lock screen', and turn off 'Turn on screen for new notifications'.

5). Check the accounts sync time for any email accounts that you've added. My Gmail accounts were all setup to sync every 30 minutes, which could cause battery drain.

6). Check your Box, Dropbox, and other cloud storage apps to ensure that they're not automatically uploading photos and videos- especially over the mobile network. If you do want to have photos and videos automatically uploaded to the cloud, I'd suggest only allowing it over WiFi. It'll take longer, and use more battery, to upload on mobile.

7). Turn off 'Blend' when not in use. Otherwise, your BlackBerry is constantly connecting to your laptop/PC, even when you're out and not in front of the computer. Could be a real battery drain.

8). Screen timeout should be set to a fairly low level. I have mine set at 30 seconds. No need to keep the screen going once activity stops beyond that. To change, go to 'Settings', 'Display', and 'Screen timeout'.

9). Turn off some advanced interactions as they require constant monitoring. Some things to turn off are, 'lift to wake', 'flip to mute', and 'hold to power save'. I personally keep 'flip to power save' on. To change these, go to 'Settings', 'Advanced Interactions', and start turning stuff off.

10). Check all of your apps! Many apps have settings that allow them to connect and update or download data on a schedule. I have found news and weather apps that are refreshing every 30 minutes! I don't check the news or weather that often, so I prefer that they refresh only when I open the apps. I'd suggest disallowing most to 'run when minimized' and to 'run in the background'. To change these, go to 'Settings', App Manager', and click the link to go to 'Application Permissions'. From there, select 'Run in Background' to see which apps were granted this permission. You can change them individually. Next, filter on 'Run when minimized' to see which apps can keep going even when you switch to another app. Revoke this permission for as many as possible.

If you setup your device to run more efficiently, I'm sure you'll be able to squeeze at least a full day out of your Passport, even with heavy use. My battery life has been great, and I don't think about juicing like I did with the Z10.

Good luck and let me know if these changes make a difference!

Thanks for all the tips about the setup. I did it all, and even though i cannot really tell a difference yet ( batt usage still show only 7hrs average...so weird as my passport is brand new from yesterday )
I will update you about the results. Hope it improves as 7hrs is ridiculous battery time for a 3000ma up battery. For instance my Q10, 3yrs old, with absolutely all the same apps running on it, lasted 10-12hrs...

This battery on passport really bugs me...hope it gets better, or i will seriously start to think my battery is fried...

Yesterday came my silver edition and I have no problem! It took 15 hours to drain the battery and I abuse it! It can be easily 7 hours if it was all with screen on!!! All modern smartphone has 4 hours of screen time!
