I am loving the passport so far but has already been discussed, there are uses for having a touch screen, which would be activated when the phone was upside down.

    Quiet typing
    One hand typing
    International keyboards
For friends that borrow your phone and like a touch keyboard

    An onscreen touch keyboard.
Slider phones like the Torch have always had this option.
I am talking about why a touch keyboard would be useful on the passport.

Great suggestions Dale, especially one handed typing. Something like what the iPhone 6+ has.

An on screen keyboard?? Geezus why lose all that screen real estate??. If u really want an on screen keyboard then get one of the all touch BlackBerry 10 devices.

Some people want it. As discussed there's a 3rd party app to do it.
    Think that's probably good enough.

Honestly, how much screen space do you need when you're actively typing? A few lines at most? Even as it currently exists, the Passport's keyboard virtual extension takes up exactly the same number of key rows as would be required for a full virtual keyboard (suggestions would appear within frets as they do on the Z10/30 instead of as an extra row on top). There would be no loss of screen real estate. Of course, it would only be an optional feature that some may find useful in certain situations,.. the ONLY question to be asked is therefore: Why not provide this option?

This is only for certain situations. Most of us can't type very well with one hand on the passport. This is a solution to fix that problem and you don't have to use it.

'Friends borrowing the Passport that prefer touch keyboards?'?!?!?!?!
    No frigging way!
A: don't borrow my phone, buy your own and B: if you don't like hardware keys, stay the hell away from my Passport.

So, you have never handed your phone to another person?
