Beside the BlackBerry symbol (top front of phone) is a tiny red light.
the light is usually off, when it is on it flickers.
What causes the light to flicker?

it's the proximity sensor on the left of the bb symbol. when it blinks, it's checking for anything nearby to turn off the screen, for example during a phone call.

Thanks, that makes sense, it does show during phone calls and when running some apps.
